The Matisse Influence

Reading about Matisse while teaching 7th and 8th grade art classes in Belgium gave me many ideas.
The students were happy to try their hand at duplicating some of the work they were seeing. Me, too.

Wonder Woman on the Move

The Amanda Gorman Influence

Electrified by the 2021 Inaugural poem by Amanda Gorman, I immediately set out to capture the feeling it gave me: one of struggle, intense dedication, and illumination. This piece started out on a large piece of poster paper, with the capitol building at the top being the first to be drawn. It was a freehand copy of a shutterstock image, with some tweaks and simplifications, and added steps down the sides of the mountain. The larger and darker mountains grew in size to add a sense of impenetrability as one worked one’s way upward. Words of her poem flow upward across the boulders, as if to keep us going.

This is a digital print of a very large paper cut-out. I have printed it in many sizes, each one in a different frame and each with a very different look. Orders available.
